Soggy day at Ecofina 4/21/12

Post by Hit-n-Miss »

:-D Daniel who hasn't been fishing since october(he's a CPA and has had to work every sat this spring due to tax season) wanted to to get on the water bad. Since the Ethanol troubles he had last year and having to rebuild his moter, he wanted to run his boat hoping to finish the breakin. We knew it was going to rain but the seas were not going to be bad so we decided to go see what we could catch. Daniel, my son and I got to the landing, put on our rain gear, and headed out the river. When we got to the mouth it looked like rain all around so we went to a close spot. When we stopped there was the strangest thing happening. Our fishing poles in the holders were singing and crackleling. :o I went to pick one up and ...ZZAPP... it hit me like an electric fence. :o I immediately told my son not to touch them an Daniel and I put them all in the floor of the boat. Even the GPS antenna was buzzing so we lowered that too and belined it back to the river. On the way in it started raining hard so we waited it out in the river. Once back in the river we found it was safe to pick up the poles and fished in there while we waited out the rain. Only had a few hits in 45 minutes but we saw it was clearing towards Rock Island so we headed that way to fish. The fish were really biting but most were small. The water was suprisingly clear and calm with the weather the way it was. The water temp was mostly 74 all day. They would not hit a pinfish today and all we caught was on SWA's and gulp. Wound up with 5 trout 16-18" and 2 BSB, but threw back many short trout and probably 100 short BSB's. After that 1st 45 minutes it did not rain again until 2:00 when it came in hard and with a lot of wind so we headed in. Daniels Key Largo ran great and we caught a few. So a pretty good day despite the rain. :-DImage

 I'm sure a lightning strike would make the fish jump in the boat too.
