A unique website dedicated to fishing information from Florida's Northern Big Bend. This includes the area from the Econfina River west to the Apalachicola River
Anyone have a suggestion on where to buy and the proper size and weight? I am interested in catching bait fish in the flats. Let me add that I have never thrown one either. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Big, I bought mine at Wally World. It's six foot spread mono, with 1/4 mesh. That's all I could handle throwing from a boat. It does fine for bait, but no good for catching large Mullet.
Big, as a first timer, I would suggest the six foot cheapo version from wally world until you get the hang of it. I have caught a lot of bait with one of those. Then as you improve, maybe you could throw some different size nets, if you know anyone who owns them, and find the perfect size for you. I still haven't as I carry three with me all the time and depending on water depth, structure, and how froggy I am feeling, I choose my weapon.
Good luck, Fish Masterson
I have printed instructions with pictures I'd be glad to email if anyone would like to have it. It shows the simple way to throw a net, both large and small. I suggest small from a boat unless it is a pontoon boat.
A little chum makes a big difference too. If you want a copy let me know,
Charlie
If you want a real net, hunt down Johnny Rivers and have him make one for you and teach you how to throw it, if you want to get into cast netting in this area, it will be the best move you will make.
The advice gets better and better! Captain Charlie an email is on the way and I am going to check out Rivers. I enjoy going in there verus the sterile feel of Sports Authority or Oshman's. When I buy stuff from Rivers I feel like I have a better chance to catch some fish. I am crazy or what?
