Small Cobia 1 Big Cobia 0

Post by Harmsway »

Went cobia hunting yesterday. My buddy hooked a small shark, and a pod of cobia followed the shark to the boat. One big cobia (at least 40 inches) and a bunch of small ones. Man those little guys would not let a lure get in front of the big guy (gal?), so had to settle for this one. Released to fight another day. :smt062

A good pull on a trout rig. :smt045

To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.

Saw a bunch Sunday, boated several an inch short, but got a legal one for the grill.
Also saw the biggest frikkin animal I've ever seen on the water.
Huge tiger shark 10-12ft with a train of cobes following him.
My eyes are still a bit bugged out.

In the Spring the females come in to pup. Some huge fat ole monsters can mosey up to the boat at anchor. I had it happen to me off Dog Island and I was wanting a "bigger boat".

I've never targeted cobia. Usually catch them bottom fishing. Hada afriend of mines wife catch a 95lber about a month ago. She looked like she weighed about the same as the cobia.
