Brain trust, what type of fish is this?

Post by tallykenj »

When I was at Rotary Reef last weekend, I landed this fish. I've been trying to figure out what it is. I suspect someone in the BBF brain trust knows. Do tell.

it's looks like a mix between a triggerfish and a porgy (jolthead maybe?) that got chomped on by something yrs ago and healed weird.
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark

Bman, BINGO! http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/Gallery/D ... efish.html It was a freaky little dude. It felt like very rough sandpaper and didn't have any meat in its bones. It also had strange gills.

Those fillets look about like what came out of the bag of frozen grouper fillets the wife bought from Winn Dixie.
