Motor issue

Post by Bayfisher »

I am having an issue with motor that I could use some help with. It is not actually the motor itself, but when I am lifting the motor out of the water it is very sluggish and does not seem to have any power to raise it. It goes down fine with full power. I initially thought it might be a battery issue, but I fully charged my battery and it is still doing it. It does not do it every time which makes me think it is some sort of connection issue. Could it be that the switch is going bad? I don't know, but would appreciate any ideas on this. Thanks!

It is most likely the motor on the power trim getting weak. Check the voltage while raising it. Check the fluid in it also.

Could be a connection issue. Check for corrosion on the lift motor connection. To rule out a switch, try raising the outboard with the console switch, then the switch on the outboard. If there is no difference, then it is probably somewhere else.

I think it must be a connection issue because it worked fine tonight. Has been doing it on and off the last few trips out. I do not know anything about trim/tilt motors but i can't imagine that it would come and go if it was a motor issue.

Most trin/tilt systems have 2 relays. Your up relay could be going bad.
What was I supposed to do today?

You can use a jumper wire to test it on the motor and bypass the rocker switch on the controls. I had a motor I thought the pump was bad but it was a connection. Good luck, hope its something simple. 8)
