PCB

Post by skitterwalk »

Friday afternoon Art e Fischal, Fishunter, and I all loaded up the yaks and headed over to PCB in hopes of landing some nice kings, Spanish, cobia, whatever we could find. We got there a couple hours before dark and jumped out of the truck...then hopped into the yaks. We had gags and snapper on our minds but the only fish that wanted to play were reds and all the annoying ladyfish you wanted to catch(which we cut up and caught the reds on :D ). We could have caught all the 32" reds we wanted but the winds ran us off. It got really bad REALLY QUICK.

I didn't get a shot of Art's fish but it was his biggest one to date. 32"! nice fish.
We were all exhausted to the max so we made dash to the hill and found a hotel to crash in until the morning.
The next day we got on the water around 10ish with 10-15mph winds from the north (A gift from god!) which pushed the waves back allowing for an easy launch and day on the water. We all tied on a kingfish rig which is essentially a 1-2 ft. section of wire with a 2-4 size circle hook followed by a 4-6" length of wire with a treble hook. The circle hook goes in the nose of your bait and the treble hooks in the back to catch the fish when it swipes at the bait.

But anyway, we launch through the surf

and start trolling our cigar minnows at a slow pace. I was trolling perpendicular to the beach looking for the depth the kings were hanging out in and eventually found it! I was literally in the middle of asking Art E Fischal if he was getting his hits while trolling or drifting when my free line rod went SCREAMING! Turned out that he was foul hooked but still a solid 35.5" kingfish. First of the day :D

After that I just kept trolling and caught a variety of species

In the mix I caught a nice 40.5 kingfish!

I burnt the dog s#%! out of my finger trying to slow those kings down, you haven’t seen drag get pulled until you hook into a kingfish its downright insane how much line you can loose in a second. I ended up landing 4 kings several Aj's couple Spanish and 2 remoras, all my fish were landed on a 3000 size Stradic Ci4 with 10 lb line. Sorry you didn't catch a king Art E Fischal you definitely got hit by em but that stinger couldn’t get em. Next time dude! Big thanks to Donny for puting us on fish! Another sucessful trip.

Also, I'm sure you've gone over this before, but are those your lucky pants or something? You look like a lost turkey hunter out there. ;)
