Re: Motorguide 109lb thrust trolling motor-REDUCED $200.00
Help a newbie out here...bought my first boat last summer. Have a Key West 216 Bay Reef and fishing primarily in-shore. I may be interested in the trolling motor but not sure about the battery situation. The 109 lb thrust would be great for the size boat I have. At 36volt, does that mean I need 3 batteries for the trolling motor in addition to the 2 I already have on a switch for cranking/house?

Catchin Zees,
Your Bay Reef is wired to have the trolling motor batteries in the console. You would need three to run a 36v trolling motor. The wire to the factory bow trolling motor plug will be there possibly tied up to the rest of the harness if there has never been a trolling motor installed. Make sure you install a breaker between the batteries and the plug as that is not done at the factory. You should check out the Key West Boat forum at http://www.keywestboatsforum.com/as it is run by the factory folks at Key West and they are very helpful with questions, part info etc. My 70# thrust moves my 196 Bay Reef plenty fast but there is no such thing as too much power just have to factor in the weight and cost of the 3 batteries over a 24v with only 2 batteries.
