4 Days Lanark Apalach Snapper opener

Post by Ranaman »

Well I have long report typed up at home and still haven't finished so I better just get something up before the week passes.
Friday fished with on buddy Todd, BlueH2OFisherman, on his boat the bailed out after the storms passed and some battery issues were solved the port motor gave us fits after catching bait so we limped to a near shore public number and put two 20 lb kings in the boat so not waste of day Also got some shopping in that mornign after a drive to St Joe at Blue Water and Half Hitch due to storms :smt007

Saturday wasn't perfect sea wise, but since Celeste and Daughter Emily made it down to fish and I had Tommy, Todd and his friend Jeremy we piled into the Celestial Crab and headed out of Lanark @ 8:30 AM We made a bait stop or tw and headed south to find Snap's Guess we did since When I called Limit Emily said it was 11:52 AM looked for some Grouper offshore to no avail then headed in and made one stop in 50 ft and found 2 Reds to ride home with us Celeste hadn't even woke up from her ride in nap  until I was getting ready to leave and she's like " you didn't wake Me " Tommy put the red grouper in the boat so fast and it was just a quick stop to find one or two I said we needed to get Todd back to pack up for home :hammer: Seas were not great, but Celestial Crab ran perfect all day!!

Sunday was Epic and perfect for running we had same 4some of Celeste, Emily, Tommy and myself, with two new anglers Larry and Buster taking Todd and Jeremy's place. The boys had just arrived in Apalach and were staying for the week with Buster's boat. because of the crowd we again took the Celestial Crab and drove over to Apalach to launch and head SW!! Well after launchin @ 8;30 and catching bait @ 20 miles out YES 20 miles out we ran another 20 miles befor running accross a black item sticking out of the water we all though was a shark fin from a far as we approched and got up on the bow we realized it was a turtle head but not the normal Loggerhead this was a masive Leatherback!!! WOW what and animal!! Truly an awe inspiring sighting!! he was HUGE!! finally pulled up on our spot and started cathcing Snapper right away Larry busting them on a C& H alien jig with no bait! After ll this cathcing time he lands two on a no bait jig LOL, after few more and then a little 15 minute clean the boat rest while Tommy catchcs the 6 foot shark Emily manages a NICE scamp her first and then with the rest of the crew waiting on # 12 she lands a beast Snapperit was 1PM We made a move and trolled a little for mahi or Wahoo to no avail then hit a coral bottom area we had caught Mangrov and red grouper on in the past, Well ole Tommy gets hooked up again on a bottom dweller that we all guesed was another shark since he took 5 minutes to urn the thing northward. finally after a hell ofa battle ona travala rod and my new okuma he boats the biggest gag I've ever seen in person and we are in total shock! Double vented him swanm him down 30 feet and wathced this beast swin away! BTW I hate these wonderful regulations :smt011

Monday We did get out of Apalach in Busters boat but other than a long wet day I was only able to land one nice Mangrove and a short Cobia.

Ok that was long enough I'll use my other novel write up for log book details  here are some pics! but first some firsts from this weekend
