Me and my partner set out at 7am. Big hartails at the buoys, only sardines at the "O" tower, nothing at the "S". Big storm and waterspouts stared at us all day, but thankfully stayed nearshore. Limited on big red snapper in 110', one mangrove and 2 lanes. Grouper were quite slow, got 2 gags and 3 reds. One 20# king off dead bait on the bottom. Found some broken weedlines, but didn't troll. Did try a few mats for some peanuts, nobody home.
Highlight of the day came late while drifting in 80' of water. Our discarded baits were being slowly picked off behind the boat. Looked like a big cuda until he got close enough to the boat and we could see the vertical stripes. Conservatively, he was at least an 8' wahoo. We had no more live bait, but continued pitching him scraps while we tied on some wire leaders. Alas, he could see the 40# seven strand in the clear water and wouldn't touch it. He must have stayed with us a half hour before idling away. What a beast! Will post the pics when I get them developed.
