Left the house at 4:45 this morning With Skeeter for lanark & dog island. Was in the water by 7am and fishing by 7:15. Since there was no LIVE shrimp anywhere. We had to fish with frozen shrimp and pinfish that we caught. The bite was slow on the pinfish. First trout on was 20" on a pinfish. Then caught a gafftopsail catfish on a d.o.a. pinfish. Got three more trout with the frozen shrimp. Two spanish mackerel on shrimp. One was 22" and the other was 20". Then to end the day, caught about 5 redfish with only one keeper at 18 1/2" long. Fished mostly in 4' to 6' of water. Caught about 9 different kinds of fish today.
Total:
4: speckled trout ( all keepers )
1: gafftopsail catfish
2: spanish mackerel (all keepers )
5: redfish ( 1 keeper )
1: ladyfish
12: bullheads
1: puffer fish
1: shark
forgot what the ninth kind was
Now for some:
I am heading down there tonight to fish from my canoe in the bay off Lanark. I will be fishing (under the full moon) with pinfish under a CT, and throwing a BIG 4 1/2" Chugbug. Sound Fun?
When I cleaned the spanish mackerel, both had pinfish in there stomachs. Also had the game warden come up too the boat. Asked him if anyone was out scalloping. He said there was two boats. One boat only had 1 and the other had 2. I'm not joking .
Nice Catch Banshee! That 9th fish, maybe a stingray or a mermaid?
How did Hard Times IV perform for ya?
I'm sure the mermaids miss me while I'm in Nashville for the couple of months making a living?
Knowing that you were going today, I did watch the weather and that nasty little storm cell floating up from St George Island. It almost made me feel like I was there!
Looks like I'll make it back to Tally for the weekend on the 17 and 18th. Maybe there will be some live bait and the trout may be moved back closer to shore...
