Carrabelle/DI Conditions Report

Post by EddieJoe »

Took the grandkids grunt fishing today about 7 miles off Dog Island. Put in at the CBC, and it was easy to notice how much water was still pouring out the Carrabelle River into the Bay. Bay is strong coffee colored, and the water by taste is almost fresh at the surface. A fair amount of submerged and partially submerged wooden materials are visible in the river and around in general, so it is wise to look carefully and go slow if you can.

Saw a few dipping birds but not much surface action. Storm left a bunch of rack on the beach, lots of other litter, a few downed trees, and many damaged docks. A couple of houses on the narrow part of Dog Island have gone in the drink, plus several more are leaning. The strip of island there is so narrow and low now I am surprised if it is not almost under water on a big high tide. Water color going offshore is a bit lighter, but I expect that it will stay dark for several days. Seas today before the sea breeze were minor swells and a one foot chop. At about 2, the SW sea breeze was honking at about 15K and roiled up the Bay pretty good, again.

Most important development was that my 45' holes were covered up with grunts, which happily took the squid my eager five and six year old anglers offered up. Non stop grunts until they were tired of it. Just right for them.

Back to shore and then down to the beach with the kids. I'm beat but it was fun for all of us.

Luck,

EJ
