Oyster Bay 7/3 and 7/4

Post by fishfalcon »

Went down to the coast for a quick trip. Launched the boat after unsuccessfully trying to net some bait. My son and I saw quite a few spanish, but never got hooked up. Threw gulp, topwaters, and a silver spoon at them. We did manage 5 shorts plus a white trout and he caught a monster sailcat. Water was incredibly stained with about 4 inches of visibility. Good luck trying to scallop in that. Fished the morning of the 4th with only one short and one ladyfish to show for it. Run off the water by lightning so pulled the boat out. Later fished from shore with 2 more catfish. Slim pickings, but it was better than working. All of you serious fishermen can now post how you slayed them. :-D

Well i went out of Ecofina to "seriously" catch a couple of reds !!! Water temperature was 82 degrees and stained real bad. The water tasted brackish to me. I fished the points and shorelines for three hours using a gold spoon, some surface plugs and spinner baits. Had six hits. Spooked some nice size reds, so i knew they were there, just weren't hungary?? The "low tide" was HIGH, and the "high tide" was HIGHER. Lots of scattered grass to contnd with, so i mainly stayed with a spoon. Still an enjoyable trip, seriously !!
