I know its been a while since i have posted a report but i had to post this weekend's trip!
Got down to Apalach late Friday night with my dad and one of his friends and one of my friends and managed to get a few z's before that 7:00 clock alarm went off. Launched from the marina around 9:00 and stopped in the cut to buy bait. With 35 wigglers in the livewell we headed to our first spot about 10 miles offshore. We dropped down with dead bait first and caught a few short gags but when we dropped down live bait, the keepers started coming in. We caught 2 keeper red grouper and got broke off 7 or 8 times

. Then just as we were about to leave i dropped down another wiggler and hooked up with something but it came off so i started reeling in the line to check it and about half way up i got hit again but it let go so i just let my bait sit there for a few seconds and i got slammed by it again and it got hooked this time! The thing took off like a rocket when i set the hook and we all thought it was a shark. After a long 15-20 second run, I got it turned around got it to the boat to find out it was a large King

. We couldnt find the gaff so we had to land this one by hand and it worked! After a few pictures, I went to put him in the ice box but after a little talking we decided we really didnt want him so we released him to fight another day. He prolly would have went 30lbs on a scale. After that spot we hit 4 or 5 more and put 4 more red grouper in the box, 1 red snappper and 1 lane snapper, and a boat load of grunts and BSB!
Sunday me and my friend, my dad and his friend, and my dad's friend invited his 2 home builders to go with us on a charter out with one of my dads good buddys who charters out of Carrabelle, Renegade Charters by Captain Scott Luke and his mate Beebe. We left C Quarters around 6:15 and got to our first spot at 8:45 30 miles out. Not a nibble on the first spot so we moved a quarter mile away and started loading the boat with gag and red grouper, BSB, lane and red snapper, and a bonus cobia

! He swam right up to the boat and Beebe told me to reel my live bait from the bottom to about 20 feet from the boat and the cobia ate it almost instantly! Fought him for about 5 min then Capt Scott gaffed him and put the lights out on him with the kill stick. He measured 36in. On our third spot we loaded the boat with beeliners

, more gag and red grouper, more lane and red snapper, 7 or 8 mango snapper

, and even a bonus 13in keeper flounder!!?? Didn't know flounder lived in 97ft of water! haha. On our 4th hole, my friend landed a monster probably 20lb gag grouper and my dad's friend landed a monster probably 20lb red grouper and a nice 15lb Red Snapper! After that the bite really slowed down and we only caught one or two fish every hole except for the BSB and grunt, they were always biting. Left for the mariana around 3:45 and got there at 5:45 and when we off loaded our catch, it filled up a whole plastic trash can

! When we got them all cleaned we had 11 one gallon bags full of fillets! On the 4 hour ride home, we got stopped twice, once in FL and once in GA. FL state trooper let us off with a warning and the GA state tropper let us off and just asked us to please slow down. Both were nice officers and I thank them for not handing out tickets!
And that my friends is one of, if not the greatest fishing weekend i have ever had in my life so far. Gonna be hard to top that one!
