Attempts last weekend to find some reds.
I love redfish but they don't love me. Perhaps it's because we don't spend enough time together. My wife feels the same way (about redfish, that is). We decided to try some sunset action Friday and hung out until 9:00 along the northern shoreline of the area around the lighthouse and east river. No luck there but it was a beautiful evening. We did see some alligators. One was very interested in my CT. He followed all the way to the boat but didn't hit it. He was inches away with his big mouth open. It was a cool site.
We went out Sat morning and spent some time on the west flats. Caught some trout but no reds. In the afternoon, I went to Kevin's to make the switch to braid. I know that its not the trick for catching reds but it seems like a good idea based all I've heard. As I was hanging out waiting for the reels, I overheard two guys talking about fishing. One guy said he and his buddies were out Sat morning and they caught six keeper reds. After hearing that, I had to jump in and ask some questions. They gave me some great guidance. Based on the feedback I got, my better half and I worked a new area on Sunday at daybreak to find some romance. No luck with the fish but we ran into a very experienced angler who wasn't having any luck in the area. He said he often has luck where we were but the reds were'nt biting. O'well, it was another great morning. I'm ready to get out again next Saturday. The reds will have to wait. It's looks like its time to snatch some scallops again.

Johnson spoons and pro cure.....
Re: Attempts last weekend to find some reds.
Thanks for the honest report.
We do not target reds but often catch some. They are fun to catch but we had much rather eat trout.
As long as you are fishing you are doing well. To have your wife also fishing with you rates a VERY well.

Go skinny. Keep chunking. You'll figure it out.

We were both using Johnson spoons and Pro Cure and had CT's out with a cut up pinfish caught earlier. They just weren't interested that morning, I guess. Best we could tell, no one else caught any in that area that day. So, before or after scalloping, depending on tides and current, I'm voting we go in search of some redfish! I get 4 votes, Ken and the two girls get one each.

Try shallow like tincan said around some rocky areas and try some skitterwalks or super spooks out too.

Hey, SS 342
We have no problem catching trout. We catch them everytime and give them away to Maxine at Shields when we get back. Interested in trading some trout for reds?
