Issue pretty sure a few board members will recognize / be able to help me troubleshoot.
Out this past weekend (need to post report! ) and boat ran well with one exception. During middle of trip while drifting some deep spots left motor running and several times popped my 90hp etec from neutral into gear, back to neutral, then back into forward gear to hold over a few good spots and while doing it several times it sounded like the prop gear didn't catch/hub spun/metallic noise for a second or so while in neutral. Most things I've read on spun hubs make it sound like issues arise with engine running at high speeds, and boat ran fine perfectly in gear with NO issues / no power drop off at any point. Wondering if just a linking adjustment needed? Any expert opinions on troubleshooting steps I might want to take (pre-shop if end up needing to take it) will be MUCH appreciated, as again problem wasn't consistent through day and ran absolutely flawlessly coming back in to the hill and I've got few distant friends wanting trips out in coming weeks.

BBG BE SURE TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL OF YOU FOOT, IF THE LEVEL IS LOW , WILL NOT GET ENOUGH OIL UP ON THE DOG GEAR, WHILE RUNNING AT SPEED THE GEARS KICK ENOUGH OIL ON THE DOG GEAR SO IT WILL NOT MAKE A NOISE. ONE THING TO CHECK.

I'm not sure what the problem is, but I'm pretty sure it isn't a spun hub. I've done it twice and been on the boat w a buddy that did it. With a spun hub, you can idle, but when you increase the rpm's, the prop doesn't spin. Makes for a long idle home ( picked up an aluminum prop and hardware which was used during a tourney when I spun my hub the second time). Sorry BBG, hope you get it worked out. Betcha Pa nailed it.

I have had that happen when easing the shifter into gear and then easing it out of gear. A swifter shift movement should overcome the gear alignment you describe. In other words. Be a man. Shift that sucker.
Yep, sounds like you just had the gears slightly touching near the neutral position, I have heard the same noise when I do not shift firmly to neutral and back. Like JT said, shift it firmly.
