Carrabelle - 7/10

Post by Reel Country »

After a week of vacation and a 3-day work week, what are you supposed to do on Saturday? Jen said rest. I said fine. :-? That is until the phone started ringing on Friday morning. One of the calls was from a forum buddy, but the most important call came from my best friend, dad. We spend a lot of time together in the woods and on the pond at the farm, but we don’t get out on the gulf to often. Plan was to head to Carrabelle and meet up with Jimmy Higgins and fish aboard Idle Time. We arrived at Jimmy’s house around 6:30 and then headed off to the Tiki Hut to launch. Jimmy specializes in catching fish. If he wants to go catch snapper, he catches snapper, same for grouper. If he wants to catch flounder, well you can bet on it that he will catch flounder.
Saturday we were chasing trout out of Carrabelle. My thoughts exactly. Trout out of Carrabelle? I’ve done this before without much success.

We headed out of the river and saw the glassy conditions. We made our turn out of the river and were fishing within 10 minutes. Dad, always probing for answers like a CPA does, asks Jimmy what he should use. Jimmy says, whatever they will bite. ;) We rigged up a topwaters and tied on some grubs.
Dad and I both flipped out our topwaters since it was still early in the morning. A few casts later by Jimmy and in came the first trout. He was using a grub. I did not even have a strike yet. Well, I quickly picked up my spinning rod and matched the bait selection of Jimmy and things began to happen. We were catching trout on just about every cast. Most in the 14- 16â€
