How about birds (cardinals, finches, etc.) and squirrels feeding around backyard feeders? Any thoughts or personal experience? I've never checked the solunar tables to confirm.

it applies to most any wild game including cows, remembering that the weather at the time has a lot to do with it. so the only thing that is constant is change

That'll be a crowded boat with all the cows on it.FUTCHCAIRO wrote:IF THE COWS ARE LAYING DOWN, THE FISH ARE NOT BITING, IF THE COWS ARE UP AND FEEDING SO ARE THE FISH.

My GPS machines display barometric pressure. Yours may also.Rainman wrote:Where are you getting the barometer readings? Any good websites or apps?
Regarding feed times:
For the Andriod user, check out Time2Fish it is a great app and I find it to be quite accurate.

Next time you go fishing think about when you catch most of the fish..then when you get home goto weather underground and look at historical data for that day for the area you fished. You will see a trend....usually catch less fish when it is rising through the day....catch more when it drops....steady pressure = "the suck"
Fishing Jumptrouts holes usually result in high pressure fishing aka no fish

Check out wunderground.com at http://i.wund.com/cgi-bin/findweather/g ... 0741666668 and select the ABYC Shell Point station. If you select to view the history, you will find some nice graphs.Rainman wrote:Where are you getting the barometer readings? Any good websites or apps?
I'm working with Brett Shields to install a weather stations at Shields Marina. It will be the same one used at Shell Point.

I thought upward movement toward 30 was good. If down is good, what range is best?Chalk wrote:Barometer is your friend - moving is good....moving down is better....high is not good.
Spent a lot of time looking at all things together - tide, moon, sun, etc...all mean nothing if the barometer is sky high

I've found that a nice east wind and bigger tides work well for my type of fishing.

I don't think I pass any cows on my way to the coast.
Could we get a cow report?

Re: How to predict the best time and day to go fishing?
I am going to see if there any apps for barometer.
I found two more apps besides Time2Fish that seem good.
Solunarcast ($1) and Fishing Times (free and upgrade for $1)
Happy that many replied.
I live in Tallahassee and enjoy Saltwater fishing.
It takes me about an hour to go to St George so I always try to go on a day and time when there is a high probability to catch fish!

You must drive real fast to make SGI in an hour. It takes me 1:15 to 1:30 to make it to Carrabelle. ANd it is a good 20 minutes more to SGI.DEADLYMNM7 wrote:I am going to see if there any apps for barometer.

Sorry,
That was approximate.
About 1 hour and 30 min to get there.
I take my time getting there and enjoy the view...

I've never really considered checking barometric pressure.Chalk wrote:Barometer is your friend - moving is good....moving down is better....high is not good.

What would be considered "sky high" Chalk?
I've heard the old guys talk about "snappin' weather" before, and I'm sure it related to the barometer.
I seem to remember it was when you had rain with higher pressure.
Could be mistaken cause I don't really hang around old guys now that I am one.
Oh....one more thing....
Thinking about hitting it in the morning....would appreciate an early cow report. Thx
