Fishing guide in Jax - updated with pictures

Post by Bayfisher »

My family will be staying in Ponte Vedra in a couple weeks. I am looking for a good inshore fishing guide in the area. I need to find someone that does not mind fishing with kids as the fishing trip is a reward for my son for various good things he has done. He is extremely excited, and we are both really looking forward to this. Does anyone have a recommendation? Thank you for your help!

How many are in your party?

And would you rather a guide, or do you think a "party boat" style guide/excursion be better?
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark

Hello. I have a very close friend who guides out of Flagler Beach, FL. He fishes inshore from St. Augustine to down below Daytona Beach. He's been fishing the area for over 10 years and has a successful charter business in the area. He is great with people and kids and will work hard to put you on some fish. His name is Jason Phillips of Phillips Brothers Charters and you can see the website at http://phillipsbroscharters.com

Jason offers inshore, nearshore, and offshore trips at reasonable rates.

Contact info is:
Captain Jason Phillips
USCG Licensed & Insured

Servicing St. Augustine, Flagler & Daytona.

Phone : (386) 307-7309

jasphil@yahoo.com or info@phillipsbroscharters.com

Hope you hook up with him. He's a great guy who I've probably fished with 50-75 times over the past 8 years.

Tell Jason that Reef Donkey sent you. He'll know who that is.

galantnole - it will just be my son and I. Although he is only 8 years old, his passion is fishing and he is pretty darn good at it. So, I am looking for an inshore guide to try and land some of those October redfish. We are not looking for the party boat type thing. Thanks

Thanks guys! I called Captain Tommy today, and unfortunately he is booked on the only day that we can go. I intend to call Captain Ron tomorrow to see if he is available. If not, you all know anyone else over there? I have had hit and miss experiences with guides, and I really want this one to go well. My boy can't stop talking about this trip.

Capt. Don Dingman would be a good choice. He's a very good guide and has a TV show dedicated to getting kids out fishing called Hook the Future. Easy going and patient.

We've done a few boat tests together. Tell him Capt. Dave Lear sent you.

Per Silverking's recommendation, my son and I went out with Captain Don Dingman this past Saturday in Jacksonville, and the trip was everything I was hoping for. My 8 year old boy and I caught 11 redfish all 30 plus inches, including one that was around 42 inches that my son brought in all by himself. Talk about a proud moment for a dad. Thank you all very much for the guide recommendations. If any of you are ever looking for a fishing guide in Jax, I highly recommend Captain Don. He is great with kids. I am going to try to post a few pictures from our trip out of photobucket, but not sure I actually know how to do it.
