Mixed Bag and Cobia...

Post by CaptReelThyme »

Headed out today to take a buddy fishing. Plan was to go west from St.Mx, but was a little bumpy and since we where on a time constraint, stayed in and around #17 and The East River. We came prepared. Top water, Gulps, live shrimp, and mullet. The tide was falling and I generally like to fish the incoming. The bite was slow, few small bsb's and sand trout. Then my reel started ripping line off. After a good solid 10 minutes, I was treated to a nice thick 3.5' bonnet head. As I was getting hook back from shark, my buddy yelled "fish on". What ever it was it was taking line and running like hell. After bout 20 min, we got it to the boat. The way the sun was I couldn't id it, till it rolled over and saw the grey white belly of a nice 28" Cobia. He caught it on a live shrimp off the oyster bed, by #17. Caught a few small specks, then the icing on the cake was one lost, really lost large mouth bass also caught on live shrimp by the banks at #49... Not landing any of our targeted species, but catching good fish and have a blast doing so...

Capt RT,

Good report. I chatted with you at Shields as my wife and I were heading out. We were in the pontoon boat. We didn't make it to 17. We hit the bars around 40 and four mile creek. We only fished a few hours and didn't have any luck.

Thanks for a detailed fishing report, even the exact location!

We plan to go fishing out of Keaton Thursday or Friday. Hope we can post as good a report. Like my brother says, "Any day fishing is a good day!"
