The Preacher and JT at Lanark
The Preacher called and wanted to go fish Lanark for reds.
After checking the Weekend Inshore Weather report I agreed.
Breakfast at Savannahs at 5:30,then off to the Lanark Market.
Non-ethanol gas and a bag of ice later we head off to a small grassy knoll.
A big trout exploded on my Mega-Ghost on the first cast.
A few minutes later, the Preacher starts hooking up with short trout.
Several minutes after that another explosion on the Ghost and the fish is ripping drag.
This giant trout comes unhooked.
Tide is falling and threatening to leave us high and dry on the shoal.
We leave there for safer waters and tales of tailing reds.
Water was safer, but the tales we heard did not prove true for us.
One 16 inch red to show for the red effort.
The trout on the other hand were thick in this location.
Many many 14 inch fish with the occasional 18-22 inch fish.
We were so busy catching you had to net your own fish or lift it over the gunwale.while the other person was hooked up.
We leave the area in search of our target species.
REDS.
While slowly drifting through a deep trough towards a shallow flat,we keep tossing topwater baits.
The Preacher used a curse word as the 5 foot long behemoth extracts his favorite lure and several feet of line from his spincaster.
Back focusing on the target species,REDS,we fish out that flat and several others.
We crossed the bay again and tried a different area known to hold good reds.
The Preacher finally hooks into a keeper red.
The wind has died,we are tired and head home with a box full of fish.
The attached picture is poor because of my photographic abilities.
But it gives you the idea of how our day went.

I thought it was against the law to take a preacher fishing with ya ??? Thats just an "unfair advantage" !!!
Re: The Preacher and JT at Lanark
To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.

I am glad you had those smooth drags installed. At least it was not equipment failure that lost that monster trout, just an unfortunate un-hooking.

I had a great time jt.

Just to have JT and the word Preacher in the same sentence tickes me - 'bout time JT started hanging with some decent folk 'stead of the lyin, drinkin, spittin, chewin women that's he's been seen with for the last couple o' years!

Nice fish JT.
Carson told me you guys had launched hours before I sauntered into the Lanark Market, even though I'm staying only a mile down the road. I started to simply turn around and head back to my motorhome since I was sure that you guys had already caught all the area's catchable fish........but I persevered. After I ran a good long way thru waves that you need a pretty little bay boat to safely navigate (not one made from recycled soda cans.....lol ) I was rewarded with a large number of sight fished Reds, capped off by one that went 19 1/2 pounds on the boga-grip.
I do love a big fat redfish in water so clear he looks like a raisin in a bowl of rice.
Let's do it again this weekend.
