My wife and I had the boat lifted in at Keaton Marina Thursday, Oct 25th. We headed south which isn't our normal habit but we had a good report of sand trout being caught in that direction. We found them but not like you do sometimes. We fished in 4-6 feet water and the goto bait seemed to be a gulp shrimp called Lime Tiger. I think anything pink to orange would work? I did catch some on Z-man's natural shrimp.
We came out with nine good speckled trout, 17 sand trout and about three spanish mac's. Was cut off numerous times and had two good spanish break off at the boat. We filled our "Trash Slam" first with sharks, catfish and small black bass. I know the black bass are good eating but we returned them all back to the sea even about four nice ones. What a disappointment to clean those big headed fish!

Sounds like things are getting better, how was the water clarity? I was down south of KB a little while ago, clarity was better but the grass patches looked kind of dead. Shame the BSB don't fillet like they look!

Water clarity was murky. I didn't see any green grass either. What I pulled up with a hook looked dead but I never thought of it. Hope it will come back out when the water clears.

How was the floating grass? A few weeks ago it was so thick with floating grass anything other than Cajun Thunders with jigs would foul up with grass.
Re: Keaton 10/25/12
Floating grass wasn't a big problem. I didn't find any large floating patches that would fowl a motor. It was enough to cause some problem fishing plugs. I've seen it a lot worse.
