Pinfish Question / Keaton

Went out of Keaton Saturday and caught fish all day. Came back with one of the best limits I have caught in a long time.

While fishing gulps under a CT, my buddy snagged a small pinfish which I put under my cork. It lasted about 8 seconds before a 22 in trout ate it. I tried off and on to catch another pinfish with a small piece of gulp. In warmer weather with clearer water, I usually have no problems with this method. However, I had no such luck this time. No luck with the cast net either. What methods should I use the catch the small to medium size pinfish that will catch trout?

This time of year they go deep.

I use a sabiki rig with tiny hunks of cut fish or shrimp to get mine. The last time I went out(about 3 wks. ago) the very small pins were hard to catch, only got a few and fished mainly with shiner tails. My day wasn't near as good as yours, WTG. GO DAWGS!!

I use a number 8 hook, with a very small piece of squid. I keep an ultra-lite rod with 6 lb test line for my pin fish rod. The small pin fish are still shallow at Keaton, In deeper water it's hard to catch the small ones. This time of year, the smaller the pin fish, the better the trout like them.
Most people will tell you to put your pin fish under a Cajun Thunder. I'd rather use a simple cone-shaped popping float. With those you can adjust your depth with out cutting and re-rigging your leader.
