St Marks or Econfina for Sat 11/17??

Post by Cast n Hope »

I'm looking to take my son, who just turned 5 last Thurs, fishing this Sat (11/17) and was wondering which was best to go out of right now? He's never been so I want to make it as fun as possible. The last few times I have been to Econfina and I have done terrible, because of all of the fresh water is what I was told. I was also told it would be a while before it would be good again. So if someone could point me in the right direction to help me make this as fun as possible I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!!

i've been fishing St. Marks a lot lately and been doing pretty well. If you are looking to make it fun, maybe trout is the way to go just to get him some action. I've been catching keeper trout out around the Refuge boundary buoys. There are some good sand holes out there that have given me some good topwater action. Good luck and hope you both have fun!

Caught tons of Mangroves up past the power plant last Thursday. Probably 20 or so. Mostly small, but pretty much a guaranteed catch and you can dodge the wind should it be blowing.

All fish caught with shrimp on the bottom.

Look out for a mid morning negative .5 foot low tide at either location. Any north wind will add to that low. The St. Marks oyster bars will look like small mountains with that tide.

Navigation will need to be unerring if you venture out of the marked channel.

rockyg has it right -- went there this morning and never seen it this low -- the tide was continuing to flow "out" way past the time for the tide change due to a constant North wind. Took this photo of one of the "ROCK" bouys.

I am a slow learner --- had this same problem two years ago -- and it was pointed out to me that North Winds can control the entire tide in Ecofina -- going to have a ingraved plate made and glue it on my GPS !! Dead Low Tide was to be at 8:22 AM. Now the tide was rising at 10:00 AM , but the current was still flowing fast out of both the Ecofina and the Aucilla
