Here's one that works well when spooling braided line:

The slick coating of braided line makes it hard to cinch down the line when filling a reel spool. The line often simply spins rather than bites. To keep the line from slipping, use teflon pipe thread tape that can be found in any hardware or home improvement store. Going in the same direction as the spool rotation, wrap the tape around the spool barrel, cut and smooth the overlap. Tie on the braid with your favorite knot and fill, making sure to keep tension on the line (I run the line through a wet rag as I'm winding).

Whenever you have to spool again, the teflon tape will peel right off and won't leave a sticky residue.

Cellophane tape works very well also. One wrap of "Scotch" tape or similar will do the trick.

I always double the end of the briad with a simple spider hitch knot then use a no-name knot to attach 4 ft of mono which I then tie to the spool. Very easy and fast knots!! Matter of fact I use the same knots to add mono on the end of my fishin briad!! Caught some big fish with these knots!!

I have always used mono for my backing for the first fifty yards or so then used braid for the rest of the spool. It gives a good backing and saves $ on the braid
