Help Please
Trying to find any info on the Econfina area? I'am not familar with Appalachee Bay. Not sure if there are artificial reefs in this area, or navigation problems. i.e. sandbars, etc. I'am not looking for any numbers, just basic info.

Econfina has 2 nice boat ramps, rocks are located on other bank across from boat ramp, so be careful.River mouth very shallow at low tide, pay special attention at this time. Rock Island is located about 6 or 7 miles East, fishing for Trout, etc. is pretty good in this area.On the way to Rock Island stay about a half mile out from shore, better to be safe then sorry. Not familiar with any artificial reefs. Have caught several Redfish this past week near rock Island in the creek mouths. Hope this helps.BBob

Take it slow going out on low tide (of course). There are some rocks/oyster bars between mouth and ramp, some where you would not expect. If its not a negative low tide you should be ease out w/o much trouble. There is a sand bar straight out from the tripod at the mouth of the river (maybe a hundred yards). Its marked with a SMALL pole. If its a neg low tide, better have a trolling motor or paddle. It stays shallow for a ways out. When you clear the tripod angle out at a 45 for a half mile or so, dont turn due east right away. Check out the three bird racks between mouth and Rock Island. I forget how far South they are (two miles maybe). That's what GPS is for. Nice deep hole east of second bird rack. Good luck. :D

The bird racks are 5 miles due south of the River Mouth.

If you have a boat of any draft at all you want to make sure you leave on a mid to high tide and come back on a mid to high tide. The sand bar before you get to the white PVC stake extends east in the river a good ways. You want to swing out east after to reach the last bend in the river to get around it. Also pay attention to the winds. A north or northeast wind can empty that river and no amount of tide will bring the water back.

The two worst spots for rocks are right near the ramp and the first bend after the island and no wake zone. Take it EASY through these places.
