Redfish aftertaste

Post by Joe »

I happened to catch a redfish offshore today while looking for seabass in clear water. The redfish was silver or lighter due to being away from the tannin water. It smelled like Procure shrimp scent and had the same aftertaste. Has anyone experienced this issue before? Any guess on the cause? No more keeping redfish out of the tannin water for me.
Cheers,
Aron

Progure shrimp - Google can't find anything by that name... did Joe mean " Kroger Shrimp"?

Pro cure, it is a scent to put on your baits. Comes in different flavores, shrimp, mullet, etc.
I've never used it so not sure what it smells like. No idea why your fish tasted like it, hope you find the answer

It is said, you are what you eat, might be that redfish ate to many artificial shrimp with pro cure scent on them. :-D

Do you think there is more shrimp available inshore or offshore? Although there was white bait around.

By chance I netted a buncha shrimp while seeking mudminnows in St Marks Refuge creeks today. They are definitely around the inshore area!

was out with Rainman a week or so ago and we decided to make a run out to the stakeline/birdrack and on the way out we saw TONS of birds crashing and sitting on the water dipping about. Upon idling up, very few of these birds would actually move out of the way - looking into the water, it was one of the largest Krill Balls I have ever seen in person. Made a few tosses in there, but to no avail. We didn't want to risk hooking into a bird anyways.

It was quite a sight to see - absolutely LOVE our fishery up here. Definitely one of the most unique in the state.
