Bluegill fishing?

Post by CaptainJack »

I bought a little 12' jon boat to go bluegill fishing and wonder if anyone might suggest a good fishing hole around Wakulla and nearby areas. I've only fished for salt water species in this area and don't know where the gills hang out. I plan to cruise the small rivers up around Sopchoopy and east to the Econfina, Aucilla, etc. but if anyone would care to suggest a place or two I'd sure appreciate it. Cap'n Jack

You can't beat the Aucilla if the river is right or the other small rivers. Problem is, it has been dry for so long. We need a few years of normal to high rain fall to get those small rivers right. Seems to me the redbellies can grow faster in the small rivers because when they flood a large area of flooded swamp offers plenty of food to grow bigger, more fish. A larger river with high banks has to have more water to flood thus offering less food.

Your area is a little out of my reach so can't help you on a location.

Good luck!
