Panacea this weekend..?

Post by bo-keifus »

Hey guys, I'm fishing in Panacea this weekend (saturday march 2) as part of the College Kayak Fishing series. I'm a student at UWF in Pensacola and myself and 2 teammates are competing against students from FSU. My teammates and I have never fished in the area before so we're going in blind. Unfortunately i have a chemistry test friday afternoon which is preventing us from going early to prefish the area. Our designated launch is at Bottoms Rd. I'm wondering how all this fresh water coming into appalachicola bay will affect the fish. I know its gonna be muddy and cold :-? Has anyone fished there recently? What would you suggest as a plan of attack? Also what's the depth like around the flats and oyster beds at low tide? Thanks in advance,

The nole yakers gave me some great misinformation to share with you :-D

Seriously... The bottoms road area gets water from the ock. Expect stained water.
Slow along the bottom.

You fishing for just reds or trout too? When you come in on Bottoms road, pulll over at the Seine yard on your left. It has the no trespassing signs on it and the access is now blocked. Stand up in the bed of your truck and you can get a real good view around the area. Depth is very shallow at low tide in most of that area. If it is a NorthEast wind and a low tide, it is so shallow it is a beach. have fun, you will catch a few.
Ducks, turkeys, flats fishing. Who has time for golf?

I don't blame them for that! Us college students can get pretty competitive and every edge counts! I've been counting on nasty conditions so I've picked my arsenal specifically for the water I'm expecting. I hope I've made the right choices
