I use my egg three to four times a week and have the factory top vent, which takes some time getting used to operating. Now i can see that this one your friend is making has some advantages, i don't think the average egger will buy it?? I probably learnt the egg's operation wrong, but i have my methods and they work for me, i don't do too much adjusting with the top vent. Now, this new vent may be a selling point to the manufacturer???

Bit the bullet and bought a "Big Green Egg" yesterday. Wife was tired of hearing me say on those rainy days..." I could be grilling".. if I had a green egg on the back porch. Went into the Pinch a Penny and wife said pay for it and let's go. The salesman wasted no time cha-ching, and loaded it (in pieces) in the bed of my Avalanche. We were in and out of there in less than 15 minutes. Got home and found the thing weighs a ton. Thank God for teenagers with strong backs. I would have never been able to unload that monster by myself. I had always wanted one long before reading this thread. A couple years ago, we were visiting one of our old neighbors who had invited us over for a steak dinner. Dang thing lit quickly, cooked like a champ, excellent steak dinner, easy clean-up. I took the old webber(s) grill(s) to the road side and they were gone in less than 1 hour. I cooked a 10 lb pork roast in about 4 hours. I am still in the learning curve 8) I can finally say "I've got an egg with a nest", and I have purchased the last out door grill I will ever own.

Now if only i could find decent lump that doesnt cost a ton. Cowboy lump is garbage. Too many sticks, tiny pieces that clog airholes etc. BGE lump is good but $$$. Pool store in Thomasville has the best prices on cookers and accessories I could find.

You're going to love it. Take your time to learn about the options and methods. If didn't get it, you need to get the indirect plate. Publix sells good natural wood charcoal that's less expensive than other brands. My better half and I made some yummy calzones last week. :lick:

You made a wise dicision and will never regret it! Welcome to the cult, many EX-Weber users here, me included. I am going on my third year as an egg owner, cook on it three to four times a week. There are a couple of forums you might want to check out and get the many opinions concerning the optional items related to making your egging easier and more predictable = $$$.. Many options all do the same thing, but in different ways, it's up to you to determine what works best for you. Using the weber kettles for many years, and thought i was pretty good at turning out some decent BBQ, but the egg is consistantly great because it is like having an indoor oven in your back yard that you can smoke in!! After learning many different main dishes, i started concentrating on cooking complete meals -- main dish plus the sides!! Just have to add the sides at the right times, but this thing turns out some great meals. This is what they call "Spatchcocked Chicken" along with sides of butternut squash and foiled baked potatoes!!!
