If you are ever down on power and the engine is hesitating a little - buy a spark tester for less than 20 bucks.



I thought I had ethanol issues - well I did have ethanol issues - changed fuel lines, filters, rebuilt pumps, etc. Cleaned injectors twice , two new direct injectors . After hemorrhaging mutiplie franklins - all I needed to do was test for spark.

In the end - all engines need fuel and spark - wish I had started with spark first. Guess my point is check the cheap stuff first

That's good advice. We all tend to blame any power issues to ethanol.

I started down the ethanol road last year, only to find out I was out of fuel. Don't tell anybody.

I went with a buddy to St Joe last week. He co-owns the boat with another friend. The day before they had taken it all the way from St Joe Bay to out front of El Governor at MB and it ran flawlessly. That next morning we put in at the ramp in the Bay and got about a mile and it suddenly cut off like it was out of gas. We managed to limp back to the ramp pumping the bulb up about once a minute. We pulled it out thinking it was the water separator. That was clean and the new fuel lines and bulb they had put on this year all were solid. We finally looked at the little fuel filter on the side of the motor and when I touched it the bottom rattled around. It had worked loose and was about 4 turns from being tight. This was letting air in and causing the boat to act like it was out of gas. Talk about a cheap and easy fix! I wonder how many mechanics would have charged for doing other work on that one?
