First try @ Lanark

Post by Dockwilson »

Tried Lanark for the first time today. Put in @ 9 am. Brisk wind all day. Didn't know exactly where to go. Used a Hot Spot chart. Tried backside of Lanark reef, caught a couple shorts. Moved to flats west of turkey point and several more shorts and a Spanish. Headed out to Dog Island Reef picked up 3 more Spanish under some feeding birds, then nothing. Went back to Turkey Point and set up a drift east to west w the wind. Caught 7 more shorts, one keeper and another Spanish. Lots of pinfish knocking our bait off. Only caught trout in 5 to 6 feet of water. Best results w new penny gulps bumped along the bottom. Live shrimp just got hammered by pinfish. Caught a few on CT w gulp and some CT w shrimp. Water temp ranged from 71-73. Got back to the landing @ 3:30. I don't care for Spanish so released them all and gave our 1 keeper trout away.
Had fun, but a long day.

Thanks for the good report.

The more you fish a location the better you'll get. Even then some days will be better than others. My wife likes to change baits quickly if she doesn't catch fish. Sooner or later she'll find something they like and then we'll all change baits. Keep fishing and mark the spots that are good and bad. After awhile it will all make more sense. Use several different fishing methods, even some that are not suppose to work. Fish are always changing what and how they want it. We've caught fish in six foot of water using a short ct and couldn't get a bite bouncing with a jig off the bottom.

That's what is fun about fishing. Finding the fish and what and how they want the bait.

Some of our most productive days we didn't catch much but learned a lot. If it is all about catching we would have some bad days. I can't remember ever having a bad day!

Keep fishing and giving us those fishing reports!

Good report. Wind out of the east fish bite the least.
I have an excuse for any condition.
