Spawn??

Post by oreocwby »

So I was able to finally play hookie for once yesterday,It was a little more windy than I would have liked and Mr.Sun really didn't want to show his face. That of course made it hard for sight fishing. My partner on the boat slayed the reds, I didnt.....Story of my season..lol I did however do alright on the trout and last sat I caught a hand full to take home and cook up.I noticed when cleaning em they were all slap full of row...Does anyone know their spawning patterns..Water temp, moon phases...I usually know when the bass and crappie spawn, but I'm green to inshore..Whats the deal?

Speckled trout females may spawn several times a year. They usually spawn at night between dawn and dusk along large grass beds to help hide their eggs. Unlike bass and crappie, speckled trout are not nest guarders. They are brood hiders where the females can release millions of eggs (in large females) into sea grass to help reduce predation by other species. Usually when you catch these roe filled fish it is a signal that they are getting ready to push up on a shallow grass flat to spawn. Many times you can catch "schoolies" along dropoffs right before the spawn that are all similar in size.
