My EPIRB Went OFF!

Post by Bonecracker »

Ok pictures this, I am busy working on a patient's lower back when my office manager interupts to tell me that the Coast Guard is on the phone and need to speak to me "NOW"!!! salute3 I went into my private office to answer the phone and they proceed to tell my my EPIRB went off and were we in any danger and did I/we need any assistance!! :smt005 I laughed and said, are you sure you got the right guy! :smt006 Are you Mark Glaccum? "Yes Sir"! Are you on the water? No Sir, I am at work right now, my bote is on it's trailer, and I live 70 miles from the coast! He asks, "Sir, are you sure someone else might be using you bote?" He!! NO!! Sir, do you have your EPIRB at hand? NO! Can you give me your 12 digit code off your EPIRB? Aaaaah! "NO" the EPIRB is on my bote at my home!! Sir, can you go home and see if you EPIRB went off? Heck YES, as soon as I get a break in my patient load! :-D Sir, you need to understand, we need to handle this NOW!! salute1 Not an hour from now! salute2

So I drop everything and run home! Dig my EPIRB out of my bote and "NO" the dang thing has not gone off!! :-D I called the Coast Guard back on there super secret high priority phone and give the guy my 12 digit EPIRB code. He proceeds to tell me "YES" your EPIRB did go off "one time" and he was glad all was well! :-D

Thank you very much that just ate up an hour of my day not to mention scared the heck out of the women folk at the office!! :smt005 Anybody every have this happen to them??

Wow. Now what do you do? Send the unit in for expensive servicing? Ignore it & hope the GC was wrong. Tough call.

Something is not right.

The EPIRB would give the coordinates, and the Coast Guard could see the location and tell it was inland.

I am not so sure what is going on, but something is amiss....

I do not understand why they would think the boat was on the water.....just weird.

Maybe the EPIRB company can give you some instruction to see if it went off, or you may have to send it to them...either way, I would not trust it till i KNEW!

Crazy, I'd be out of sorts also. Ps check your spell check, apparently it likes to spell boat, bote. I hope you get it all worked out. Good luck

Sounds to me like your EPIRB needs servicing, or a battery replacement. That is one item you should take care of before you really need it. :

I didn't mean to offend. I really thought it was a spell check issue. I also went to college and am as bad of a speller as there is. If I misspell a word enough, my spell check will adopt it as correct. Again, really sorry. My intentions were not to offend.
