Bob Sikes Cut / Plantation

Post by SGIFisher »

Hey guys, Ive done a lot of fishing on Saint George. Mainly on or under the bridge. I've heard a lot of people saying how good the fishing is at Sikes Cut. Ive also read recently that you can no longer get access to Sikes Cut unless you are staying at the Plantation. Just trying to find out if this info is accurate. I'm headed to SGI on Memorial Day weekend. Cant wait to hook up!

No access by land except as stated by CUlrich. If you don't have one you might consider renting a boat to access the cut, just be very careful. The bay gets rough, you can hit a sandbar or oysterbar, and the current in the pass can be dangerous.

Have you tried the east end of the island? There is excellent wading for trout, reds, and spanish or great surf fishing. The Cut is decent but not necessarily the best fishing around the island.

Never done much fishing on the beach. Usually just fish the bridge during the day and beach fish at night right around Buccaneer Inn. Good fishing on the east side huh? I'd love more info.

The state park camp ground on the east end offers good wading on the backside for trout and reds. Wear shoes or boots so you don't get cut on the shells. Fish the oyster bars and grass flats with the usual trout and red lures or some live pinfish you can catch there. The very end of the island has a drop off where people gather to catch the spanish running through. Most anyone there can point it out. You can use google earth or some other satellite mapping to see areas to fish.
