Indian Pass Advice Needed

Post by Thom »

I will be down there this summer with my 15 year old son to fish. We keep thing simple and use a canoe and trolling motor to get us to the fish. Are there good flats we could get to if we launch at the Indian Pass boat ramp? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Indian Pass ramp is in an area with pretty extreme water flow at times, so be careful in a canoe. The big bulls like that area. Out of there, you have two choices, turn and go out into the gulf. No flats, just sand with ripples. The other is to turn and go behind St. Vincent's Island. There are a lot of oyster bars and other structure. The best choice IMHO with a canoe is to drive to St. Joe Bay. You can put in at the new park at the beginning of C30E right after you make the Cape turn and paddle out to some great shallow flats that don't get a lot of pressure, because it is hard to get a big boat back up in there. You go and launch into the Bay at the Stump Hole launch area and get into some deeper flats quicker.

Of course the real thing to do at Indian Pass is to go to the Raw Bar and consume oysters, shrimp and crab legs and some even consume adult beer beverages.

Good luck!

"the new park at the beginning of C30E right after you make the Cape turn" I looked on Google maps and couldn't find this. Do you know the park's name?

Also, any suggestions on lures to throw? Thanks for the help!

Now you have gone from inquiring to meddling! :smt005

Anything you throw on the flats you can throw in the bay. I like bite a baits and even stoop to fishing with live LY's when its hot. A lot of fish are caught on cajun thunder corks and jigs such as gulps. Go by Presnell's on the Bay on C30 a couple of miles past the C30E cut off and get them to show you or go into St. Joe and inquire a the Blue Water Outfitters next to the Piggly Wiggly.
