5/6/2013 Bottoms Rd.

Post by superiorrifles »

Me and my wife launched from Bottoms Rd at about 10 am. Fished within site of the boat ramp all day until 3PM. Nice day with mostly sunny skies but a little chilly breeze for my wife most of the day. Started out the first hour with not one bite. Fishing a Cajun thunder rig with a florescent green grub. Finally, BIG BITE!! caught me off guard.....line stripping...get my composer and get control of the fish...notice that the fish is hugging the bottom....Sail Cat? Yep! big ole sail cat! Fun catch though, now I'm awake! 15 mins later...another big bite...this time the fish comes to the top and I see its a pretty nice Trout!! No dip net on board!! Dang!! I forgot the dadgum dip net!! Too late now...fight him to the boat and with one fluid move lift him up and in the boat right at the wife's feet....she is now trying to put her foot on the flopping fish to keep him from jumping out of the boat.. GOOD JOB baby!!! Get the trout in my hand to measure and she is just over 20" SWEET!! Take a deep breath and cast the Cajun thunder back out...lands in the water and BAM!! Another good Trout!! This one measures about 19"!! Off and on the rest of the day with 4 keepers and about 6 shorts, 4 sail cats and one lady fish. Load up and drive down to MY Way Seafood to pick up a pound of jumbo shrimp to compliment the fresh trout! Awesome day on the water with my princess!!! Thank you lord for the wonderful day!!

I really wanted to fish on the east side of Piney Island where there is a lot of grass, but the wind was keeping it pretty rough for my little boat. Maybe next trip.

DixieReb, I am heading out of the lighthouse ramp tomorrow early, 5/8/13. Should be a nice first half of the day. If you see an ugly old guy with a USMC ball cap in a Carolina Skiff, stop and say hi. I might even point you to a couple of JT's holes.
Nice day out Rifleman. Glad you were able to land dinner.

That was a good fishing report! I like it when you are with family and catch dinner.

The bite seems to have slowed some but it'll warm back up.

Thanks for the report.
