I have had luck chasing large schools of Spanish off the beach on alligator point. Always in the early morning. A plain gold or silver spoon or a bull minnow (if you can get your hands on them). I dont recommend bobbers. Those little @&%$+ will bite at the ends of them and sever your line. And as they said, no steel leader, no fish.
