There are no safe routes going that way inside the stake line. You could get routes from several people and they could have just missed a rock by a few inches. Remember, the rocks around there move at night. If you are looking for total avoidance of collision, your best bet is to clear the long oyster bar running from the Lighthouse out towards the channel and then turn on a route that will take you inside of the sand bar and straight to the first stake (pole marking the east end of the sand bar). Run on the outside the stake line (or at least just inside of it) until you get straight in line with Palmetto island and then turn in until you get to about 4' of water then slow it down and ease in. There are definitely some rocks on your way in from there (ask me how I know) so slow and patient is the way.

Or...... just throw caution to the wind and hammer down and take your chances.

Last summer I spent several days exploring this area under idle / trolling motor power trying to mark all of the rocks. I looked down and it looked like my GPS had the measles. Always assume there is a rock under you in this area. Previous poster is correct. There are no safe routes through there.

The safest route is in someone else's boat :smt004 :-D

HEY WALDO, YOU GOT THAT SHOT RIGHT, SEVERAL YRS. BACK SEVERAL YRS. AGO I WAS HEADIN EAST INSIDE THE MARKER POST DOIN ABOUT 45 AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEARD (BLAMM-BLAMN) THE FOOT ASSEMBLY WAS GONE , I LOOKED TOWARD SHORE AND SAW THE NIGGER ROCK, I THEN KNEW I HAD REALLY MESSED UP. IT WAS A LONG RIDE BACK TO THE LIGHTHOUSE ON THE TROLLIN MOTOR. I WAS GLAD THAT I HAD JUST BOUGHT A NEW TROLLIN MOTOR
BATTERY. THE BAD PART WAS WE ONLY CAUGHT 8 KEEPER TROUT ON THE WAY BACK IN. I GUESS IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE. WHEN I FINISHED REPLACING THE LOWER FOOT ASSEMBLY AND ALSO A NEW SHAFT TO THE POWER HEAD I HAD DROPPED OVER $1,200 FOR PARTS AND I DID THE LABOR.

thanks for the info. I just continued to use my old tracks and hope for the best, and avoid the rockpile outside the stake line in front of Palmetto Isl.

Did catch a quick limit on Friday morning. Also saw a couple folks with skiffs run straight in almost to Palmetto. Makes my insides churn to watch that, but they must know what they are doing or have good insurance.
