USS Minnesota Completes Alpha Sea Trials

Post by mjsigns »

Introducing the USS Minnesota (SSN 783). Ahead of schedule by 11 months, the submarine will be the fifth Virginia-class submarine to be delivered by NNS to the United States Navy. The Virginia-class is the U.S. Navy's newest class of attack submarines — the most advanced submarines in the world. Minnesota (SSN 783) will be the third U.S. Navy ship to bear the name of the 32nd state. Minnesota's commissioning is scheduled for September 7, 2013.

Videos like these makes me think I should have joined the Navy, instead of the US Army.

Fishin' is the mission.

Yep, she was at Key West the time I was aboard, 1960 - 1962. She had a habbit of taking deep dives on her own. She had done it before I went aboard, once with me aboard and then the final one caught up with her after my duty. The man on the control sticks, Taylor - a Texas boy, pulled her out the last one but she had warped her hull and was never any good after that dive.

Some call them "THOSE GOOD OLD DAYS!"

Was talking to a Missle Tech who qualified on the Chopper in the early sixties -- his name is Dennis Dory, lives in Lake City

Don't remember that name or anyone from Lake City. I was gone in August of 1962 so he could have come after I left.

After two months on patrol, you get to know when to twist and turn to avoid all the things hanging from overhead that could hit your head.
