Lanark Landing - Memorial Day Weekend
I put in at Lanark for the first time on Saturday morning and was very impressed with the friendliness and courtesy that was extended by Mike and the other two gentleman that were collecting the launch fees. I enjoyed talking with these guys and since it was my first launch here, I asked them about anything to watch for. They gave me excellent navigational advice on getting out of landing and what to look for coming and going along with what other fishermen were catching. I launched Sat, Sun, and Monday and had great experiences each time. Let me say that Mike works his tail off getting boats in and out. He even ran and showed my wife where to park my truck / trailer in the lot next door. I also had the pleasure of meeting Carson at the store as well as I needed some more Non-Ethenol gas in the boat. These are some great folks to do business with and I look forward to getting back down there soon.
As far as the fishing, I caught Trout, Ladys, plenty of Spanish, plenty of small sharks, and two nice Reds, 26" and 25" around Dog Island. Since I had my family with me (wife and two girls, 7 and 5) we fished a little and played alot. I released all of the catch with the exception of the reds. I met an older couple, Ken and Susie, on the island and ended up giving them the two reds. They were pleased and thanked us for them. After a little while they came back to us and asked if we would be back on the island on Sunday and we said yes. Susie then said they would bring the reds back and we would grill them up on the beach. So, we did and let me say those were some of the best tasting fish that I have grilled. There is something about cooking right there on the beach while the kids are playing in the sand and everyone is having a great time.
For the most part we had a great experience with all people and boaters with the exception for the one boat that came 50 yards from my boat while I was fishing the Dog Island Reef. All that ocean and he had to come so close by right in the direction I was drifting. Didn't look like a fisherman, he looked like he was headed down to the Bash.
Anyway, great trip, great folks, great memories with the family. I can't wait to get back down there!

Glad the trip went well. I spent a little time on DIR on Sunday. I think 50 yards is the farthest I was away from boats at any time. I also saw some folks anchored up swimming. You can't float a pinfish for 2 minutes without a shark eating it this time of year. Brave (or uninformed) folks.

That could have been us. Except we did not anchor. We took the opportunity for a photo op in the clear water where the surf was breaking. Sharks? My job, if one comes along, is to jump in and take one for the team!!

No, TD I didn't, but will have to give it a try next time! Thanks for the advice.Tidedancer wrote:Yep. The folks at Lanark Landing are first class. Did ya try the hot dog wagon. Man the 1/4 pounder is goooood!!

I fished the reef on Monday around mid-day and surprisingly it wasn't crowded at all when I was out there. Normally wouldn't complain about anyone that came that close but he came right where I was throwing. Not a big deal and definitely didn't let it ruin my day. As far as the sharks, very plentiful, those people you saw are braver than me.Salty Gator wrote:Glad the trip went well. I spent a little time on DIR on Sunday. Mike is the man......the kind of guy who is always happy to see you.
I have seen him work himself to death helping people launch and load, treating them like old friends even though he didn't know them from Adam's house cat.
And......if you have not been inside in a while Carson has the store looking fantastic. The shelves are bulging with literally everything you need for a great day on the water, food, bait, ice, Non-Eth gas, even advice on where the fish are biting.
It's the only time I ever look forward to going to the boat ramp.

I second or third the vote for Mike as dock assist of the year. Love talking to him always try and stop to say hi and see how he or Carson are doing even if I'm just driving by and not fishing. Mike has help me more time than I can count and all around just a nice guy to talk to. Certainly happy you re-opened the market Carson and look forward to many more years swapping tales and hopefully fishing with you soon! Joe & Celeste
