St. Joseph’s Peninsula
I am going camping down in St. Joseph’s State Park in two weeks and don’t have a chance to scout. You men or women have any suggestions on bait. I know you can’t give me specific locations, but any general areas would be appreciated as well.

I was just there 2 weeks ago. Check my post in the fishing reports under surf fishing. We camped at the first mile campsite. Beautiful scenery. Awesome fishing location! Wade out and fish the grass day and night. Throw jigs with paddle tailed plastics and Gulp shrimp under a Cajun Thunder. Watch out for sting rays, urchins and horseshoe crabs. They are everywhere!
The hunt for the notorious green whale never ends.

The Stump Hole is a great area to fish for trout, reds, flounder, or tarpon. Just as you turn out onto the Cape you will see a bunch of boulders along the Gulf side of the road. Stop at the Cape Trading Post and ask John or Todd what is biting. The Eagle Harbor boat ramp area in the park is a good place to wade the grass flats too. On the beach side, especially early or late, you might find schools of spanish and lady fish busting bait near the shore.

Thanks y’all. I want to take the kids and you know how it is taking a kid and not catching anything, so thanks again. I know this is a lot of hard fought information.
Re: St. Joseph’s Peninsula
All the above is correct. Wade the grass flats around Eagle Harbor with a popping cork and gulp shrimp fished 24" under it and you should catch something. Also, walk the beach with a rod rigged with a Gotcha plug. Look for Ladyfish harassing bait on top, the kids will love seeing them jump while hooked! Just be careful, Gotcha's and kids don't mix well. (Treble hooks) Good luck and let us know how you do.
