July 6th Scalloping @ Keaton Beach

Post by Hit-n-Miss »

:-D We always look forward to the opening of scallop season, but the rain just wont go away. Was going to try Lanark but the weather has been hammering that area. After calling keaton marina and seahag we found out that is has not rained hardly at all over the last few days down there. So my family and Fishing cpa decided to try it today at Keaton. We got down there shortly after 7:00 and headed out. We fished for a while with only a few shorts to show for it. The water was rougher than forcasted and the wind was steady from the south. We decided to head in shallow down by Grassy and try to find some scallops. You could not see any from the boat so we had to just dive on in.The water was a brisk 74degrees but surprisingly clear. The scallops were very scattered but good size. We ended up with a 2 man limit out of our 4 people even with the rough conditions. There was around 200 boats out there and as usual a lot of folks going too fast too close to others. It was a fun day out there and no rain. Just got thru eating scallops alfredo. :lick:
