One tip... there is a lot more meat on a Manatee than in a scallop.

I used to launch from the marina and it is a pretty good ride to the gulf from there. The big fat tender manatee are up by the main springs usually. Although FWC has made a lot of the river no wake from time to time.

How long would it take to get to the gulf? Nice scenic ride? Where do you go when you hit the gulf?

It was about a 25 minute or so boat ride out the river and it was very scenic. I have never scalloped there, just fished for reds and trout. I am sure that the local bait house can tell you where to go on the flats for scallops and of course, I suspect you will see the scalloping armada when you get there.

I just hope old Bob isn't still there or you need to watch out. He had a 45' Hatteras with the river curves programmed into his autopilot so he could ski hot women out the river and watch them rather than the river!

It sure ain't the Aucilla, but there were a few hazards to navigation here and there. I usually stayed in the channel unless I was easing along looking for fish. It was not uncommon back in the day to come up on a mudflat on the side of the river and see a 100 redfish tailing. There was a big spoil bank on the northside of the river mouth from dredging. Other than that, I rode out the river several times with old Bob and with another buddy in a 70 foot houseboat.
