FISHING CARABELLE

Post by CAPTAIN CHARLIE »

In all the years I have fished around here I have never fished inshore in the Carrabelle area. I have family coming up Labor Day, and we plan to stay at my daughter's place in Carrabelle on the beach.
They want to fish, so I need advice as to the best place to launch and the best places to fish. Her house faces the west end of Dog Island, Ballast Cove, and we can see it from her house.
I believe there is a ramp east of Carrabelle Beach at a marina. If anyone has any suggestions as where to go for trout, redfish, etc. please let me know. All suggestions are appreciated.

Seems like I spent too much time around St. Marks and Shell Point and Dickerson Bay.

Thanks,

Charlie

Go east to the Lanark Market. It is just past the Ho Hum RV Park and Campground. Forum member CULRICH owns it. Stop in and ask Carson what is biting and where to go. The ramp is great and if it's busy he has a guy, Mike I think, out directing traffic so the loading and unloading is fast and painless. He'll probably chime in with some updates on fishing tips.

Thanks for the tip. I have never been there but must have passes it a thousand times. Is it west of the Ho Hum park? And about how far?

Is it close to the Lanark yacht club?

Thanks,

Charlie

Leave Carrabelle and go east. It's at Lanark Village. That is the area where the streets on the side of 98 going inland are named for the states. You will see the store and ramp area on the right. I have no idea where or what the Lanark Yacht Club is.

Is the Yacht Club the basin and docks that the boat ramp is connected with?

Not to take any business away from Lanark Market (I buy gas there) but the ramp you mentioned is much closer to your daughter's place on Carrabelle Beach. The Timber Island Boat ramp at the end of Timber Island Road just turn off 98 at Carrabelle Boat Club. That puts you just a couple of minutes from the sound and then you can go east back toward Lanark or west through the pass.
