Kid Fishing Turns EPIC - Running with the Bulls!
Two of my friends have been asking me to take their kids fishing...
The weather and schedule lined up and I suggested a morning trip with one and an afternoon trip with the other.
I warned both groups that the fishign had been tough and we may just end up playing with Lady fish and sharks but they were up for it.
Meet crew #1 at the marina at 7am with 50 shrimp and a big cooler of Ice.
I had Dad(Jose Gaspar) his youngest Daughter, his son and one of his son's friends.
The water was like glass- and not a hint of breeze. Hot does not being to describe the day. We immediately started catching short trout and ladies.
No one cared they were happy feeling a fish on the end of their line.
I decided to keep ladies for cut bait and chum thinking sharks and reds might be an option after it got hotter.
We ran to a deep hole by an oyster bar that has held reds and I knew would have some sharks.
Seconds after we dropped a line in we had a shark on... Then another rod doubled over.... BAM big red on!
Abby, his youngest, fought it like a pro and she landed a 37inch Bull Red! We took turns and everyone in the boat caught a 36inch plus BULL RED! We also boated numerous sharks and big sail cats.
Everyone had a good time and we were off the water by noon.
Ate lunch at Hammaknockers and then I headed back to the marina for round two.
As I pulled in the clouds were building and then the bottom fell out.
I talked to my buddy Jason and said come on down but we may get rained out.
They pulled in about 1:30 and the clouds were just letting up. By the time we had gear in the boat it was calm and clear- just STEAMY!
Decided to go back to the reds first and it didn't take long for a rod to bend. This was Jacobs first red- Think he is spoiled ? We proceeded to catch four more in the next hour or two Also jumped a 6foot TARPON!!!! No photographic evidence of that but it was huge and jumped clear out of the water twice before breaking the line!
After we were worn out fighting those bruiser reds we went out to chase trout.
Caught a few trout and lots of ladies - Something of a let down to catch a keeper trout after those beasts!
Tackle- 6/0 circle hooks with three foot 30lb fluro leaders, swivel and a 1oz egg sinker.
Bait of choice- chunk of ladyfish.
All fish we caught on typical trout gear- 20lb mono on the baitcasters - 35lb braid on the spinning rigs.
Amazing day on the water with good friends and their kids.
Could not ask for more!

That is awesome! and I am so jealous. Nothing like putting kids on fish, and if you're really lucky, some day they return the favor!

Well I see see two boats coming for some fathers and maybe a couple of new forum members as well. Just make sure someone else takes them on the second trip...
