Keaton 9.14 & 9.15

Post by bigblister »

We fished Saturday and Sunday morning. Saturday started out slow as we tried pin fish for a while with not a lot of luck. Fished South of Keaton as the water to the North was jet black. The clarity in 5-7 feet of water was probably less than 2 feet. Back to fishing, luckily we bought a few live shrimp and they proved to be the bait of choice once we found the fish.

Sand trout bit first and the majority were on the small side. Specks were mixed in and mostly between 12-18 inch range. TONS of catfish once we drifted into water over 7.5 - 8 feet. The water temps hovered in the mid 80s all weekend. We ended up with 13 sand, 13 speckle trout and 1 spanish on Saturday. Sunday gave us more of the same - same area and same bait. We finished up with 7 before we had to pack up and get back to GA.

I know what you mean about being nice being back on the water. We are long over due!

Thanks for the nice, detailed report. Good to know about the shrimp.

One day and I hope soon we'll be back to get our "SALT FIX".

  I'm glad you caught some, sounds like a good 2 days. I was there Sat. morning fishing off the pier, it was the slickest calm I've seen there with no wind after 9 AM. Only thing I hung that was any good was a nice mangrove snapper, got off right at the pier.

I'll try Steinhatchee....... as soon as the east wind subsides. We'll slip offshore if the wind allows. Yes, the further south, the clearer the water. Should be much improved by mid Oct......... if no Tropical weather arrives.
