Perfect Skinny Tinny ?

Post by Badbagger »

Just thought I'd toss this out there. I'm curious what would you consider to be your "perfect skinny tin" rig? A while back I posted about tunnel hulls and I am scouting around for something to run and FISH skinny. Strictly all welded and most likely with a tunnel and surely some sponsons. Weight is a BIG factor that I know and still learning. I'm thinking a 1652 all welded with a side console to make the most of the floor space or possibly a tiller style boat. A nice big deck area. Low gunnels to get rid of the "sail factor" so it can be poled. Engine wise, probably a 50 2 stroke Yamaha or an Etec to keep the weight down. Those 4 strokes are nice but come at a heavy price. Lastly, something that you can FISH skinny and not just RUN skinny so draft is important.

I'd love to get a Scandy White tunnel but they're proud of those boats and they are nice. I know a welder with a lot of experience in cutting tunnels into tins so I wouldn't leave a lot out on the table. I can't see going any bigger than 1756 but even at that it's getting heavy. Found an Alumacraft 1756 hull and trailer but not so convinced on that one yet.

So gimme the skinny please :-D

know all u rich folks would get a high $$$$ Metal Boat.. But this boat will run as skinny in (6" ) of water on plane unless rocks are Just under water as any boat and it will be around when all other high $$$$ boats are rusting and rivet are poping... It will run wao at 30 miles with a 1986 merc out bd.. So i will keep the ole wooden cypress Bayou Classic Boat for many more years

I had a Scandy 1652. With a tunnel I found you will have to run fast to run skinny. i would rather push pole. A total flat bottom will float skinnier than a conventional tunnel. Study adding a JP to a flat hull for skinny running.

I got that heavy Scandy stuck in shallow water one time. :o

I now have a regular hull G3.

Comes in handy at times like casting for bait, or reacting to a hooked fish, or manuvering around in tight quarters.
