California bans lead bullets

Post by guthooked »

I just read something funny. California has banned lead in bullets because its harmful to wildlife. I'm not the smartest guy around but I always thought harming wildlife was the whole reason we shoot them n the first place.

Bunch of bunny-hugging hippies out there.
To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.

Not saying I agree, nor do I really care because I am not a hunter. I know where you are going with your comment Steve, but isn't it true that you can't hunt with lead over water HERE for a similar reason? Just a thought. :smt102

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Ban lead bullets, bird shot, and fish sinkers. Mandate bullets have serial numbers. Mandate what they can penetrate. Mandate what length of gun, accessories on the gun, number of bullets and cartridges held. Mandate fish hook sizes like use of circle hooks, barbless hooks, type of hook material. Make hunting and fishing seasons and regulations so restrictive and hard to follow like our current fishing regs or what is considered baiting for doves on an agricultural field. Why go offshore when most of the target fish are out of season or you can only keep one or two?

The hunting and fishing sports start losing participants and father's stop teaching and passing down to their kids the art/sport of hunting and fishing. The tree hugging bunny humpers keep biting away at the elephant... Or the camel with it's nose under the tent will be in your sleeping bag eventually.

Nope- You can shoot game over water with lead shot. Dove, Snipe, Squirrel at the river are all legal.
You are only prohibited from taking migratory waterfowl with lead.
Silly rules.

You can hunt anything over water with lead other than ducks. I hunted with the guy who was the Fed lawyer when this law slipped in. He said nobody seemed to care, so the feds didn't fight the huggers suit. He said that there were maybe a dozen spots in the country where there was any real concern for lead poisoning due to waterfowl ingesting lead shot.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!
