Econfina Friday and Saturday (10/17 & 18)

Post by The Flats Fox »

Friday: four of us fished about 3 1/2 hours of the rising tide. Caught a limit of 20 trout, ranging in size from 17 1/2" to 21 1/2". Fish were hitting hard and very aggressive. One leaped about 3 feet out of the water when hooked. Had to find clear water and found it about half way from the river to the left bird rack (Rock Island area). Water temp was 78.2 degrees and fished in 5 to 6 feet of water. All fish caught on Gulp Shrimp. GOOD DAY!

Saturday: Fish not in same area. Found clearer water down toward Aucilla. Caught 16 Trout, 2 Black Sea Bass, 1 Spanish, and 1 Pompano. Caught on rising tide in about 5 to 6 feet of water using Gulp Shrimp, dark colors with chartreuse tail. Size range was similar to Friday. Overall, we had two good days of fishing.

That was one good detailed report….thanks! Yes the bite is hot! You just have to find them.

I love fishing Rock Island, especially the trout grounds south of the island. The fish left this summer with all the rain and dark water. Maybe they have returned?

The bite is hot around Keaton as well.

I'm sorry----it was the 18th and 19th. At 75 years old, the memory is the second thing to go!!
