Where is Mud Cove?

Post by MarkM »

I always said it was on the gulf side of Alligator Pt. Near where the old Pt. Lounge was. I have a friend says it's in the bay. A friend who says it's near Oyster Bay and met someone Sat. who said it's around Chaires Creek somewhere. Where is it?

I'm not sure where pt lounge was, but mud cove is where the KOA used to be. There are a bunch of rocks where folks fish from shore. Between bald point and alligator point.

Mud cove is the area West of the South Shoal on the inshore side of the big sandbar that runs out south from Alligator Point all the way to the shoal (Marker 26 protects boats from the southern edge of the shoal). It can be said to continue as far west as the KOA to the large sandbar that runs southwest from there, but to my thinking it does not go that far west. In my childhood we caught waaaaaay too many Spanish mackerel in there. Used to see hundreds of tarpon as well, depending on the annual flow of LY's. For me with 2 6 gal tanks of gas it was important to gauge my fuel consumption cuz it was a long, long walk to pull the boat back down the front of the Point and back to the marina.
Cheer up, it gets worse...I did, and it did!!
